Trinity Lutheran Church
Semi-Annual Voters Meeting
June 20, 2007
|
President John Hargraves opened the meeting with a prayer at 12:25pm. |
| After ensuring that everyone had signed in, President Hargraves welcomed several new members to the assembly. |
| A motion was brought forward and seconded to accept the minutes of the June 18, 2006 and December 10, 2006 voters meetings, and the April1, 2007 special voters meeting as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote. |
|
Treasurers Report Treasurer, Beverly Hargraves, presented a year-to-date budget summary with a brief explanation and answered several questions from the floor. It was moved, seconded, and passed by unanimous vote to receive the summary as presented. As an aside to the budget report, the President offered some additional information concerning the rising cost of chancel flowers. Previously, the flowers have been purchased by members of the congregation as memorials or in celebration of special events. As the cost of fresh flowers has risen, however, there have been fewer members purchasing them. As a result, the church has accrued over $1200 in unbudgeted expense for flowers. Several options were offered as alternatives to the current system to reduce costs. John also requested that anyone with other suggestions should submit them to the Pastor or Board of Elders. |
|
Board Reports Various administrative board reports were included in the printed hand-out that was distributed at the beginning of the meeting. |
|
Old Business The mortgage refinance with Lutheran Church Extension Fund has been approved and is in the process of being finalized. |
|
Operating Budget The next order of business was the presentation of the 2007/2008 operating budget. Rich Rosch moved to accept the budget as presented. The motion was seconded by Cindy Pavis. The floor was opened for questions and discussion. Treasure, Beverly Hargraves fielded several questions and clarified a number of points. With no further discussion, a vote was called for. The budget was approved by unanimous vote |
|
Election of Officers The slate of candidates for the positions to be voted on appeared as follow:
It was moved that due to only having one candidate for each position the slate should be accepted by acclimation. The motion was seconded and passed by unanimous vote. |
|
New Business There was no new business. |
|

Board of Christian Education (D’Ann Morris/Kristi Baker) ( Sunday School continues for all ages, using the “Growing with Christ” from Concordia Publishing House. We have 83 children enrolled in Sunday School and 16 Teachers giving of their time and talents. ( To date, $477.73 has been collected through offering and at the end of the school year the total will be donated to Children's Aid Society in Waldorf. ( There will be no Sunday School on Sunday, May 27th due to Memorial Day weekend. The last day of Sunday School will be Sunday, June 10th . ( Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 25-29; Lynn Huntt and Jeannette Wolter are the Director and Co-Director.
( We are
currently looking for Sunday School Teachers for Pre-K to Adult classes
for next school year. Please see D'Ann Morris or Kristi Baker if
interested. Elder's Report (Rick Rosch) ` The Elders continue in assisting and praying for the Pastor, and the congregation. c Lenten dinners were very successful thanks to the many members who hosted these events. These were a perfect example of how a committee should work. I was only able to attend the first one. From all accounts from members who attend the remaining three, all went well. Thanks to all the hosts and hostesses who made these dinners friendly and successful. c Easter Breakfast was another team event. Several mother's and daughters decorated and set up the Fellowship Hall the night before Easter. Special thanks to Therese Milcetich for the beautiful bulletin board. We served 159 people between the two services. Again the Fellowship team did a wonderful job cooking, serving and cleaning up. Special thanks to Dawn Pipkin for knowing where the extra chairs were and getting them back to the correct classrooms. c The I Don't Drive at Night Lunch group is growing. Beginning May 18th we will meet on the third Friday of each month. This is not a ladies only group and we invite anyone in the congregation who is available at that time to join us. Just watch Trinity Talks and the bulletin board for exact location each month. c The picnic is next week and the Fellowship Committee expects that it will be the fun filled event it has been in the past. If you have ideas for summer Fellowship activities, please contact Jeri Pharis (301 373 2724).
Little Sonbeams (Vicki Lysaght) q The Preschool had a very successful year with enrollment throughout the year being maintained at 99%. q We are winding down the school year with our Bridging Over ceremony on June 8th. q Summer Camp starts June 11th and goes through the 15th. The “Walking With Jesus” Summer Camp has had a wonderful response. Enrollment has already surpassed last year’s. q LSCP is sponsoring a Mother’s Morning Out Program next year (Wednesdays from 9a to 12p; ages 2-4) as an Outreach to the community. q There are still 4 openings available in the 3 Day class for next year and only 1 spot left in the 5 Day. The 2 Day class has a waiting to date of 7.
Property (Hal Willard, Sr.) U We are looking for a relief for our long serving Lawn Mowing Coordinator, Mike Campbell. Mike has organized the “DEERE RIDERS” schedule, for the rest of the year. Call me if this is what you can do for the congregation. The first bidder wins! U We have a lot of outside painting to do. The first step is to scrape or chip away the old paint on the foundation blocks for the “A” frames of the Fellowship Hall. Once that is done we can easily apply the new paint. This first step can be done anytime. It doesn’t have to be during a scheduled work day. If you have some time, you could do as much or as little as you wish. Bring your own tools or use the ones we have. Yours may be better than ours. There are a few small outside painting jobs that can be done without any real preparation: look at all those white plastic pipes that the downspouts go into. Don’t you think they would look better if the were brown: and you won’t need to get on a ladder?
Social Ministry (Cindy Pavis) ?We had a busy year at the Pantry thus far. We have assisted 207 families of which 26 are new clients. The summer months are usually very busy, but because of vacations we are only open every other Wednesday. ? The Donuts Sales will stop for the summer, but will continue in September. The money generated from the Donuts Sales allow me to purchase items not allowed by the government, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, mac & cheese, stew, etc., so please know how very much your contributions are appreciated. ? We are welcoming the Lysaght family and Melissa Outman to the pantry volunteers. We are happy to welcome anyone else that might be interested. ? We have also received our 1st half of the monies allotted to us from FEMA, which is just in time for the busy season. God Bless each and every one of you and thanks for the support.
Stewardship (Lyn Whitmer) A No Report.
Ushers (Tom Mischke) ? The Usher Teams are thankful to those who've served during the last six months. Members’ flexibility in schedule and responsiveness are appreciated beyond words. We've been able to retain those who've been with us over the previous year. ? Plans to stand up a fourth Team are temporarily on hold. As information on new members’ preferences trickle down, we'll take up the question again. Those new folks in the Voter's Meeting who are observing/participating for the first time, I ask that you consider the Usher Teams as you plan your congregational involvement in His service. ? Our Usher's Manual is brief and available on the podium in the Narthex (entry where attendance and prayer requests are recorded). Please, feel free to contact me: Tom Mischke (H) 301-866-9677 after 6:00 p.m. or by email at thomas.mischke@navy.mil (this because my home computer email is currently unreachable).
